Summer Diaries - Ramblings And Rants

Post this in your newsfeed! That way, you will get more readers!

But, what about my blog site? A site that I lovingly created to keep record of my write-ups? What about the efforts I put into selecting its theme, cover, background, font and all?

Are they more important than getting readers for your blog?

I pause. My mind is on a rampage today.

Ever since I decided to write something today, my mind has been suggesting that I write it as a post in FB. Perhaps the easiest way to gain more readers is to post my write-up in the newsfeed of my FB profile, instead of writing it as a blog and sharing the link there.

I scroll through my newsfeed in a moment of distraction, and I see hundreds of writers sharing the links for their blogs, tagging people and requesting for readers.

I am forcibly reminded of the stories that I read in some books - of people posting their first blog or Vlog, getting hundreds of subscribers, thousands of likes and millions of views. The truth could not be any farther. In today's world, it is easier to make a ridiculous reel and gain thousands of subscribers than to get any readers for your own blog site. Case in point - yours truly who bakes a cake in happiness whenever any of her blogs in her blogsite crosses 10 views. 10, mind it. Not 10K or 10 M or whatever numerical-alphabetical combination there is to Maths. Just 10 views and that makes me want to celebrate.

The temptation is strong - to post my write-up in the newsfeed and thereby gain more readers.

But then my eyes roam over my blog's draft page where I am typing this. It makes me emotional and nostalgic.

I can remember the feeling of exhilaration when I created my first site in Blogger. At that moment, there was no worry about getting readers or views. There was just the euphoria of having a site of my own where I can post my blogs.

Over the years, I have written for several blogging platforms where I gained recognition. The number of readers and views kept fluctuating. Throughout my journey, my blog-site has been the one constant which, for every blog, brought the same happiness that I found here on posting my first one. I feel a strange kind of loyalty towards it. It is after all every struggling writer's dream to own a blog site of their own.

I make up my mind.

No, I will write for my blog site and I will post the link in FB. I firmly tell my mind.

Your loss. Mark my words, there won't be any readers.

I know. Still I will write. My blog site deserves my loyalty. It may not get any followers or readers, but it will always have this struggling writer who will probably ramble, rant, cry and unleash her feelings here. But the site will have blogs and will be promoted, regardless of whether there are views or not.

This silences my mind.

So here it is, first post on the first day of May. Probably there will be readers, probably there won't be. Could be some comments, could be nothing. But I take gratitude in the fact that I have my blog site, and I wrote a blog today.

Sometimes that is all a struggling writer can hope for.

  1. Vlogs and reels garner more attention friend. Visual media is attractive. Writers struggle to get readers. Despite the content being meaningful and brilliant, the writer walks many extra miles to get one reader. But consistency and persistence is the key.
Ur writeups are beautiful and I'm sure u will soon shine brighter than u are now. Keep going
