Summer Diaries - A Day Out In Mysuru

We reached Mysuru at about 10 in the morning. The climate was a far cry from Hyderabad's. After spending about two weeks in 40+ degrees, Mysuru's 36 seemed so welcoming!

I usually try to describe a new city in a phrase or some word. The word that comes to my mind to describe Mysuru is 'gentle'. Another word is 'royal'. Everything about the city seems gentle. The people are polite and well-mannered. Mysuru still contains it regal charm of yore, with buildings resembling the majestic Mysore Palace in their construction and build.

It was 12 by the time we reached our hotel. After a leisurely bath and a scrumptious lunch, we set off for sightseeing. Having only half a day in hand, we couldn't explore the Mysore Palace but we did see it from outside. My son was fascinated with his first sight of a real palace! It stands majestic and tall, a testament to resilience.

The roads of Mysuru are a pleasure to drive on! Broad and even, they are every traveller's delight. There is plenty of greenery in Mysuru. It was a wonderful experience to drive through beautiful paths with trees on either side of the same.

We visited Karanji Lake Park, a wonderful trail with the beautiful Karanji Lake. We didn't avail the boating service here but the lake had really clean and pristine water. There is a butterfly park here along with a zoo too. This park has monkeys in abundance. They roam freely, not not minding the presence of humans. But it is best to not to carry anything in your hand as they come in search of food.

After the park, we went to Earth Planet, a beautiful park cum aquarium cum zoo. This park has rabbits, dogs, cats, Emus, ostriches and various other birds such as swans and geese. By paying some amount, we can take pictures holding a parrot or even a large iguana. Needless to say, we gave this a safe pass. But the animals and birds look well-cared for. Their shelters were really clean. There's a park for children with some swings and slides. Arial activities such as zipline riding are also conducted here.

The aquarium here houses an impressive collection of various types of fishes. There's also a section showcasing brilliant artwork made on pencils and wood. My son and my niece enjoyed this part the most, so did the adults.

Mysuru gave us some stunning moments of sunset. The sky flashed orange for a long time after the sunset. It was truly amazing to travel watching the beautiful hues of the sky above.

On the way to the hotel, we passed through Devaraja Market where you can find everything from vegetables, spices to footwear and clothes. There are many saree shops selling exclusively silk sarees that Mysuru is famous for.

In the evening, we had a wonderful dinner at the rooftop of the hotel where we are staying. The cool breeze, cozy ambience and the presence of family members made this one of the best moments of the day!
