Allow Yourself To Grow!

Allow yourself to grow.

Often we are impatient with ourselves. We want to develop, but we want it to happen quick and fast. There is no harm in wanting to reach quickly, where we want ourselves to be. But we would be losing something very important if we rush ourselves. What would we lose? The lesson, that, our journey is where we learn the most, not at the origin, not at our destination. It is the journey that would change us, mold us into our future selves and prepare us for our destination!

When you plant seeds in the garden, you don't dig them up every day to see if they have sprouted yet. You simply water them and clear away the weeds - you know that the seed will grow in time.

I personally believe that planting and gardening are excellent teachers of patience and forbearance, both of which used to be foreign concepts to me in the past. My mother has an interesting story to share about me. She says, when I was about ten years old, I planted a mango-seed in the tiny garden that we had in our veranda. Every day I would peep into the soil and ask my mother - 'When will I get the mango?' Having grown older (but not necessarily wiser), I now know that we can only plant a seed, ensure it gets enough water and sunlight and then let it grow on its own. Our growth is similar to the growth of a plant! In whichever field we want to see our growth - be it physical fitness, spiritual development or attaining mindfulness in our daily lives, we can only put in the required efforts, ensure continuity in the same and then let the Universe guide us further.

Do your daily practice and cultivate a kind heart.

As I mentioned above, all we can do is to put in regular efforts. It is not enough to just do the required work; it is important that we enjoy the steps in the process and learn from them! Every step in the journey towards personal development is essential. There are no shortcuts to success! Every step you take in the right direction, changes you, makes you reflect and think and prepares you for the next step in the journey. Smell the roses on the way, it is said. Enjoy every step and learn something from it!

Whichever way you choose in life, ensure one thing - that you retain kindness within you! There is immense power in this abstract thing called kindness - it can change someone's very life! Be kind to yourself and also to the people you come across in your day. Nobody has it easy, friends! Each and every person in the world is suffering from some kind of malady, either physical or mental. While we may not be able to solve everyone's problems, we can ensure that for a brief period of time, they felt better and their burden lessened for a short while because someone showed some kindness towards them.

Abandon impatience and instead be content creating the causes for goodness; the results will come when they are ready.

Allow yourself some time to grow and develop. Be patient with yourself! In the process of self-discovery and self-development, remember that no one is an island, and that it is only together as a community, that we grow, develop and be at peace. Contribute to goodness in your own way as much as possible. In your journey, help others in whatever way you can - a helping hand, a kind word, an impromptu smile that changes someone's day - you will find that small gestures like these work wonders both for yourself and the people around you.

One day when you finally feel that you have arrived where you wanted to, you will look back and see that the most important lesson was from the journey itself! You will find that everyone you met along the path had something to contribute to your progress. You will realize with gratitude that you too could help them in a small yet remarkable way. And ultimately you will realize that it was never just your journey, but it was a journey of all of us, everyone wanting to find their better selves somewhere ahead and far in the path of life, but wanting support and motivation.

Be patient with yourself, be kind to everyone and allow yourself to grow, taking along as many as you can in your path to progress!
