A Balanced Life

I recently came across this wonderful quote - 'Balance is not something you find. It's something you create.' I couldn't agree more with this statement.

There is no doubt that life has become hectic today. Crazy and rushed mornings, stressful afternoons and chaotic evenings reign over the day and ultimately end up in troubled and disrupted sleep at night. We do not deserve to live like this! Of all the basic necessities required to live, one of the most important among those is a peaceful mind. It is not too much to ask for, is it?

We need to bring a semblance of balance in our days. The chores are important; so is our physical health and mental well-being. Our work, whether at home or in the office, is important; so is spending some quality time with our children. It is important to earn money for sustenance; so is pursuing our hobby or taking time for whatever makes us happy.

As I reflected upon the said quote about balance, I realized a few things that often disrupt our peace and lead to an imbalance in our deeds as well as our thoughts.

TAKING UP MORE TASKS THAN THE ALLOWED CAPACITY:

I have deliberately used the word 'capacity' rather than 'capability'. We might be capable of much, but it doesn't mean that we do it all. Take up limited tasks every day and give your complete attention to those. In the office or at home, we have the tendency of trying to do too many things, that too as soon as we can. This not only results in chaos, but also that none of the work gets done properly. By taking up limited chores as per their priority, we can ensure a hassle-free day as well as complete attention to every chore/task.

I have found that making lists in the morning often helps in sorting out the tasks that are required to do immediately and which tasks can be done at leisure. Writing it down also gives a clarity of purpose and  helps to set things in motion.

TAKING SEVERAL YET TINY BREAKS FROM DISTRACTIONS:

When I hear the word 'distraction', I can only visualize the mobile in my mind. But this is somewhat wrong. If put to good use, the mobile can be a veritable source of information and can assist us to a great deal. But most of the times, we use it to scroll through our social media sites or chat groups. While a little bit of fun is needed in our day, we can take a break of few minutes every now and then from the mobile and be in the present moment fully with no distractions or disruptions.  This is an extremely rejuvenating exercise, being immersed in ourselves; it calms the mind and helps it to settle down. Thus renewed and rejuvenated, we can return back to our work with fresh vigour and can get going!

DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY:

This is the most important task of the day! I know that amidst a lot of responsibilities, it is difficult to pursue our hobbies or do what really makes us happy. But unless we are happy, we won't create an amicable environment, neither in our homes nor in our offices. It is important to ensure that our responsibilities do not rob us of all the joy in our lives. You must take time off every day to pursue your hobby and to do what makes you happy. This is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity!

If you try to seek balance, you won't find it. You will have to create it yourself! Live every day at leisure, take up less chores and execute them to the optimum best, go into several 'solitude-breaks' during the day and never forget to do what makes you happy.

Have a great, balanced life!
