You Will Always Rise! (A Poem)

 


A time will come in life when it feels easier to give in

To let go of hope and to let despair win.

To shrug off the mantle of positivity that we had donned

‘We can face everything!’, oh, how, ourselves we had conned!

 

The time will come when negativity will seemingly give comfort,

Will crumble around us, our gigantic and mighty positive fort,

We will lament – ‘Our dreams and hopes were in vain!

Oh! Holding on to them all this while, what did we gain?!”

 

There will come a time when the desire to succumb

To hopelessness and defeat will, all our other senses, numb.

‘Why to struggle against what looks inevitable?

Why not simply give up, accept defeat and in our grief, be comfortable?’

 

The weaker side of the mind will whisper this and more

‘Why should we put up a fight anymore?

In the end, life turned out to be unfair, as they all said,

Dearly, with our dreams, hopes and wishes, we have paid!’

 

‘let us now embrace despair and sink into it!

We have fought a lot, let us now accept defeat!’

Will it come to this, my friend?

Is this what will become of our minds, in the end?

 

It won’t, I tell you, because you are strong!

Giving up will always, to you, feel wrong!

Wounded and bruised, still you will rise,

You will roar – ‘Not yet, one more fight!’

 

When the desire to accept defeat is strongest,

When the struggle ahead seems the longest,

That is when you will draw into your inner power,

To hold on, you will recognize is the need of the hour.

 

One more fight, one more step, one more attempt,

No matter, how strongly, negativity will tempt,

You will hold on to positivity built over the years,

No matter how badly lash out at you, your fears.

 

The more defeat beckons, the more you will hold on

To strength and to positivity, the mantle of courage, you will don.

You will come through the trial, bruised yet battle-wise,

From the ashes, like the phoenix, you will always rise!

Happiness - A Journey And Destination!

As a homemaker, one of the biggest challenges of my day is finding happiness amidst the routine chores. When you have to do the same tasks every day, a sense of boredom creeps in.  One of the best lessons that I have learnt in my quest for happiness is that, it can be found not just in the destination but in the journey as well. Often we focus so much on the destination that we forget to smell the roses in the various paths that our journey takes us through.  I try to make mundane tasks interesting by adding something new to the day. While cooking, I usually listen to podcasts. Not only do they inspire me, but the dreary process of cooking turns into something interesting that I actually look forward to. Do Not Just Exist; Live!

As I remind my kid for the umpteenth time to set aside the mobile and devote some time for studies, and as he gets irritated, a wry thought crosses my mind. How and when did I become so uncool?!  I have always tried to stay poised, as much as I can. It has not always been a success, but the moments of calm and poise have outnumbered the moments of panic, at least till now. But off late, I find myself often getting panicky or anxious. While a cough, in the younger days, used to be just a cough and nothing else, now it makes me search for dire diseases in the internet. While the prospect of travel used to bring in excitement and a good sense of anticipation in the past, now it adds to the anxiety, reminding of all the tasks and responsibilities to be dealt with the travel.
