The Circle Of Life

Just like that, another day has gone by.

There is a ritual I follow every day. From my balcony, I look out at the sky after waking up. Usually it is dark, but the birds start their gentle chattering. The caretaker of the building opposite to my apartment would be sweeping the road at that time. Milk-delivery guys are the only people out on the road at that time. All this happens around 5.15, give or take a few minutes.

By the time I finish my bath and step out on the balcony to water the plants, the scene changes. The day is no longer dark, but it is not golden either. Have you noticed that the days have particular colours at particular times? Dawn is usually gray and takes on a slightly pink hue by the time it makes way for morning. Then for a brief lull, the morning looks white, until the sun rises. Then it is all golden. Pure bliss of golden sunshine and warmth. When I look out of my balcony at this time, the scene is so different!

I make it a point to watch out yet again twice, once in the evening, just before dusk and finally at night when I shut the door of the balcony. While dusk sets in a spectacular display of oranges and reds, night ushers in the comforting shade of black. Amazingly, the view at night is somewhat similar to the view of the early morning, except for the delivery guys not being in the picture.

It sometimes feels that the days of our life follow the route of a circle, something that Nature intended. Are the birds we see in the evening the same ones that left their trees in the morning? Is the ray that the sun is withdrawing as it set, the same one that ushered in sunrise in the morning? Who knows!?

We pay attention to weeks (solely because of the much-awaited weekend), months (salary day!), seasons and years but the days go by un-noticed. The irony is that we spend most of our moments in days and tend to overlook the same. Much can happen in a day, and much does happen, even at the cosmic level. These are probably little things but they are what keep the universe in motion.

While things are happening around us, things are happening with us too. We are in our best form somedays while other days there is ample scope for improvement. Every moment, as the day changes, something within us changes too, for aren't we connected with Nature? We wake up with one state of the mind and go through several different states the whole day.

Before we realize, whole of life passes by as the circle of days, weeks, months, seasons and years keeps rotating. In some ways, it is fortunate that there is a circle operating in the universe. It keeps us grounded that things will change and that eventually, life will draw a complete circle. Things will fall into place when they are meant to. Today's high will move along with time, probably bringing some lows with it, but we will return to where we were before. Today's lows won't stay forever and will move, and we will learn to move with them.

The circle is a reminder that we need to keep moving, no matter where we find ourselves stuck. Time moves and if we acquaint ourselves with its pace, we will find ourselves in synchronization with the circle of life.

No matter how busy you might be, do take some time off to really observe the day. Who knows, the insights that you might gain will push you further in the Circle Of Life!

  1. I liked the way u described the subtle changes around us. Something we fail to observe due to the constant rush we r in. When I wake up tomorrow ur write up will remind me to observe the day
